How HiBrands Was Born: Giving Local Businesses the Reach They Deserve

Years inside corporate boardrooms taught me something surprising: local business owners have the same potential as the elite, often more. What they lack is an online presence. This is the story behind HiBrands.

People often ask me where the name HiBrands came from. The honest answer is that it didn't start with a name. It started with a feeling I carried for years: that the local businesses I grew up around deserved far more than the world was giving them.

I never forgot where I started

I come from a local background, the kind of neighbourhood where everyone knows the shopkeeper by name and business is built on trust, a handshake and a good conversation. My career took me into the corporate world, and with every step up I moved further away from that group. But I never forgot my roots. I always knew that one day I wanted to give something back to them.

What years in corporate taught me

Over the years I worked closely, from the inside, with some of the most successful businesspeople you can imagine. I expected them to be a different breed. They weren't.

What I learned surprised me: they had the same potential as the local business owners I grew up with. In many ways, the local businessman was even better. He communicates more naturally. He understands his customers personally. He knows his margins, his stock and his market by instinct, because his livelihood depends on it every single day.

The difference between a big brand and a local business was never talent. It was reach.

Two cards comparing a big corporate and a local business: similar strength in communication, understanding customers and business sense, but a large gap in online presence

Same potential, different reach: what separates a local business from a big brand is rarely skill.

The real gap: being found online

So what was holding local businesses back? It came down to one thing: expansion through digital marketing. Most of the local businesses I knew simply did not exist online.

  • No website or landing page. When someone heard about them, there was nowhere to send that person to see what they offer, check prices or get in touch.
  • Not listed on Google. A customer searching "near me" on their phone found a competitor instead, because the business had no Google Business Profile and wasn't on Maps.
  • No social media presence. No page to follow, no photos to share, and no easy way to message them on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp.

Big companies have whole departments for this. A local shop owner has a counter to run. That doesn't make his business any less capable. It just makes it invisible to everyone who doesn't already walk past his door.

Three cards showing what most local businesses are missing online: a website, a Google listing and social media

The three things most local businesses are missing online.

So why the name HiBrands?

Every good local business begins the same way: with a simple "Hi". The shopkeeper greets you, remembers your name and asks about your family. That warmth is something big brands spend fortunes trying to imitate.

HiBrands is about taking that "Hi" online. We help local businesses greet the customers who are already searching for them on Google and scrolling past them on social media, and turn those businesses into brands people can find, trust and recommend. That is what our tagline means: Say Hi to Growth.

How we help local businesses grow

We built HiBrands to close that gap, using the same tools and thinking I saw inside big companies, at a price a local business can afford. We usually start with the basics, in this order.

A four-step path from local to found: get listed on Google, get a website, show up on social media, then grow with ads

Our usual order of work: the basics first, ads once they are in place.

1. Get listed on Google

A complete Google Business Profile puts you on Maps and in "near me" searches. For most local businesses it is the fastest win, and it is part of our local SEO service.

2. Get a website or landing page

A business website gives customers one place to see what you offer, your prices and how to reach you. If you need something quick for a single offer or campaign, a landing page does the job at a fraction of the cost. Both come with fixed prices, which you can see on our current offers.

3. Show up on social media

We set up and run your pages so people can follow, share and message you. Our social media optimisation work turns happy customers into word of mouth that travels online.

4. Grow with ads, once the basics work

When the foundation is in place, Google Ads put you in front of people who are searching for exactly what you sell, today.
